Churchill Gate
Exhibition Piece

A design developed from a proposal for the Churchill crypt gates at St. Paulís. We have linked Churchillís symbol of the survival of the blitz, St Paulís arising from the desolation, to the indomitable British spirit which Churchill himself embodied. The foliage at the bottom represents the virtues needed to keep going when life is tough, Ivy for persistence and Oak for wisdom and strength. The human spirit is in the new growth and buds of hope pushing their way ever upwards, navigating where necessary the obstacles in their way. All members of the upper part of the gate are tapered and lightened towards the centre creating an impression of light through the wood. This sense of vision and perspective provide much needed encouragement when experiencing difficult times.
