Horden Welfare Park Gates
County Durham

Reinstatement Design
Created in the 1920ís the park was the flagship for Durham coalfield & to this day the layout remains largely unchanged. As part of a regeneration scheme two sets of new gates, recreated in puddled wrought iron exactly as they would have been prior to wartime salvage, were required. The design was created using elements from a smaller set of gates, now much dilapidated, which survived the war. As with all such work, entirely traditional methods have been specified including heels and slot tenons, forge welding and pierced scrollwork.
