Queen’s Gallery Portico & Balustrade
Buckingham Palace, London

Design Development
PORTICO; Ornamental copper work and bronze castings for Queen’s Gallery including ‘the squid’ crest finial, fish scale panels, ridge and roll cappings, cornice cladding, glazing bars, gutters and fascias of the new portico. We developed the architect’s concepts by providing design adaptations and technical solutions which resulted in a new system for the pressing of ornaments in sheet copper. The ornament was originally intended to be cast bronze but our approach not only provided a major saving in expense but also a much smother and crisp surface finish than casting.
BALUSTRADE; Design solutions for the balustrades to the main stairs and internal balconies.

Architect: John Simpson and Partners
Award: 11 ‘Copper in Architecture’ Awards by the Copper Development Association.
