Shandy Hall Handrails
Coxwold, Yorkshire

Built around 1450 Shandy Hall is famous for the novels ‘Tristram Shandy’ & ‘A Sentimental Journey’ that were written here in the 1760’s by the witty & eccentric parson Laurence Stern. Due to the new style of writing these works are celebrated for being the first ‘modern’ novels. The handrail design concepts are based on a page in his novel where his pen goes for a ‘wander’ across the page. The Hall is now a lived in museum with gallery and shop.
