Piece Hall, Halifax. Gate colour scheme, developed by the Ironwork Studio as part of a remote consultancy.
Piece Hall, Hallifax. Restored cast-iron gates, sporting the colour scheme designed by The Ironwork Studio

Since 2017 we have been providing remote project work assistance. We give creative and technical support to both conservation and design projects. Remote assistance relies on working closely with a professional who is on site, but who does not have the same level of specialist expertise in ironwork that we have. We support both architects and contractors.

Case studies:

Moran House Bell Tower | cast iron stairs restoration

Ironwork restoration and conservation consultancy
Description: remote assessment, repair and restoration consultancy reports

A cast iron spiral stairs connecting 3 floors up to roof level, with structural damage caused by prolonged water ingress. Working remotely, we provided experience, knowledge and guidance to ensure the project was planned appropriately and compliant with best conservation practise. Working closely with the appointed metalwork contractor, under our guidance, they completed all the site work including surveys and site meetings. Using the survey notes we compiled the condition and restoration reports including options for refurbishment and specification.

Yeatman Hotel | balustrade

Heritage inspired metalwork
Description: remote contextual design consultancy for new hotel

Creating the right first impression was of utmost importance for the Yeatman Hotel, a Relais & Chateaux member, which prides itself on providing the epitome of sumptuousness to its guests. We remotely designed the balustrading for the grand staircase within the stunning entrance foyer. Working with the architects drawings and interior designers mood board we created a classically influenced repeating pattern. This frames the occasional more intricate decorative panel, giving punctuation and a point of aesthetic focus to the overall arrangement. Brass breaks up, and provides highlights, to the otherwise black scheme. Layouts for the full scope were set out on the architects’ drawings with installation detailing confirmed by the construction company. Our technical designs and specification were used for tender and procurement
Service: Contextual design, technical design and specification
Location: Porto, Portugal

Testimonial

“The Ironwork Studio has done many designs for all three of our houses over 10 years, from central London to our Country houses in Hampshire and the South of France. I have a wide ranging experience of working with designers and like to be hands on. I found working with The Ironworks Studio a most exciting experience and they ensured that the design was very closely matched to what I wanted. Ending with a design that fulfilled my aspiration, the spirit of the place so that it belongs perfectly and blends in its environment as well as being perfectly matched with its practical use. I love every piece every time I look at them. I whole heartedly recommend working with the Ironworks Studio.”
